Guide · Updated November 2026

Do you need a website if you have a Facebook page?

Short answer: if you want strangers to find you on Google and you want to own your customer list, yes. Keep the Facebook page too. They do different jobs.

Side by side

Facebook page only vs your own website.

Who owns it

  • Facebook page only: Facebook does. Your page lives under their rules and can be restricted or lost.
  • Your own website: You do. The domain, the content and the customer list are yours.

Showing up in Google

  • Facebook page only: Facebook pages can appear in search, but rarely for "service + town" searches.
  • Your own website: Each page can be built to answer the searches your customers actually type.

Who sees your posts

  • Facebook page only: The feed decides how many of your own followers see a post.
  • Your own website: Anyone who visits sees everything, every time.

Taking money or bookings

  • Facebook page only: Limited, and on Facebook’s terms.
  • Your own website: Booking, quotes, payments and forms built the way you work.

Measuring results

  • Facebook page only: Likes, reach and messages inside Facebook.
  • Your own website: Calls, forms and sales tracked to where each one came from.

The setup that works

Social to be seen, a website to be chosen.

  • Facebook and Instagram keep you in front of people who already know you.
  • Your website catches the people searching Google for what you do, in your town.
  • An email list keeps every customer reachable, whatever any platform decides.

Straight answers

Common questions.

Is a Facebook page enough for a small business?

It is a good start and a good place to talk with customers. As the only place you exist online, it leaves you hard to find in search and dependent on rules you do not control.

Should I stop posting on Facebook if I get a website?

No. Keep both. Use Facebook and Instagram to stay in front of people, and point them to the website when they are ready to book, buy or ask for a quote.

What if my Facebook page gets restricted?

Without a website and an email list, the customers you built up there can be cut off overnight. With them, you still have a way to reach everyone. I have seen this happen in a regulated business I run, which is why I build owned channels first.

How much does a small business website cost?

My published prices start at $1,500. The website cost guide covers what changes the number and what it costs to keep a site running.
