What changes the number
Five things that move any website quote.
- How many pages. A one-page site and a 7-page site are different jobs. Each extra page needs design and words.
- Who writes the words. Copywriting is real work. Check whether a quote includes it or expects you to supply it.
- Selling online. A store adds products, checkout, payments, shipping and tax settings.
- Moving an old site. A redesign has to carry content over and redirect old addresses so you keep your search rankings.
- Search and tracking setup. Titles, structured data, analytics and Search Console are often left out of cheap quotes.
After launch
The costs nobody puts in the quote.
A website keeps costing a little every month. Know these before you sign anything.
- Hosting and the domain, paid yearly or monthly. Make sure both are in your name.
- Updates, security and backups. WordPress and its plugins need regular updates, or the site eventually breaks or gets hacked.
- Paid plugins or builder plans that renew every year.
- Changes. Ask what a small text or photo change costs before you need one.
Straight answers
Common questions about website cost.
Why do website quotes vary so much?
Because they price different things. Some quotes are a template with your logo dropped in; others include writing, search setup, tracking and training. Ask every quote what is included, who owns the site, and what you pay each month after launch.
Is a cheap website builder a bad idea?
Not always. For a brand-new business with no budget, a builder can be a fine start. The cost shows up later: monthly fees that rise, limits on what you can change, and a site you cannot move without rebuilding it.
What should I pay monthly after launch?
At minimum, hosting, the domain and someone keeping software updated and backed up. Here that is the Website Care Plan at $199/mo. Marketing that brings people to the site is a separate decision.
